Volume VII Issue 11 - Virus and Hoax Alerts
Get yourself an Anti-Virus Software Program.  Back up your computer on a routine schedule and always delete suspicious emails or emails from unknown senders and NEVER OPEN their .exe attachments.  Note: Please don't forward Virus Alerts or Suspected Hoaxes to everyone without checking it out.  See the sites below and click on the one you like to get the info on the latest Virus Alerts and Hoaxes/Urban Legends.

In the Fall of 2000 my computer became infected with a "Trojan" type virus.  Unfortunately I backed up the computer and the virus as well.  It wiped me out for weeks.  I had sharp "techies" working on it but I lost a ton of data.  If I can help keep you from such a maddening and expensive experience then we'll both be very happy.

Here are just a few web sites that you can check for more information about Anti-Virus protection.

Foolish Stuff About Money

An outfit that calls themselves the Motley Fool has some interesting and fascinating ideas and concepts about investing and other stuff. Visit them at: http://www.fool.com/

Money Savers:

We Airline Pilots measure our fuel in pounds rather than gallons. The simple reason is that the volume increases with a reduction in temperature. On a hot day we'll need more gallons to get the required amount of pounds of fuel. To make it real simple for you, refill your gas tank early in the morning when the gas is the coolest. You'll get more useable fuel for the same amount of gallons. The saving to the average driver is over $50.00 a year. And, don't gas up when the tanker is delivering gas to the station because it stirs up the sediments, which could end up in your tank and cause problems for your car.

Put your loose change into a "piggy bank" or a big jar. You'll find that you'll save far more than the cost of membership in the Golden Rule Society.  At the end of each year use it to do something nice for someone you love.

Save your Lottery money. It's a sucker bet to put $5.00 a week into the Lottery. Put the money in a "Fun Money Envelope". Next year you'll have $260.00 for fun and games. Remember for most folks have $260.00 after taxes they'd have to earn approximately $346.00 before taxes.

Always pay yourself first. When writing your monthly bills, try paying 10% to your own savings account. Once in the habit of doing so, you'll be amazed at how quickly the money grows. You should have an "Emergency Fund" equal to six months of your fixed expenses. Keep it in a money market fund or a savings account. If you need it, you want it to be accessible. Once you have it in the Bank, then start an investment program that fits your goals, your needs, your personality and your time frame.

To save hundreds if not a thousand or more on groceries just follow these simple tips:

Find the best "Special Shopper Program". You can save up to $500.00 or more every year by taking advantage of the Supermarket's "Special Shopper Program".

Triggered Purchase Coupons…These are the coupons they give you with your cash register receipts. They're triggered by how much you have spent at the Supermarket. We save hundreds of dollars a year this way.

Be a "Coupon Clipper". My wife Anne gets the biggest kick by saving money with coupons. She enjoys getting the coupon discounts on things she was going to buy anyway. Many times they offer double or triple coupons. It doesn't take that much time to cut coupons. Just use 10 a week at an average of only 50 cents each and you're now saving over $250.00 a year. Those are after tax dollars you're saving.

Use the stores Membership Cards. Shoppers who use these cards automatically save on the products selected by the Supermarket. Your savings can be over $250.00 a year depending on your selections.

Stick to your shopping list. Avoid the emotional impulsive buying that pumps up your shopping costs. This one tip can save you hundreds of your hard-earned dollars. Trust me on this one friends. I'm the biggest impulsive buyer. My wife will attest to that. She keeps me in control. hehe.

Buy Store Brands. If you only spend $100.00 a week on groceries, you can save up to $1200.00 a year buying the store or generic brands. When you buy the name brands you're usually just paying for the marketing and packaging.

I know these ideas will take a bit of discipline on your part. However if someone said to you that they would pay you all those tax-free savings just for following the suggested savings tips, you'd probably be happy to do it. Well, just do it. And, keep your hard-earned money in your own pocket or purse.

Stay away from the "Get Rich Quick" schemes and never invest in anything pitched over the phone by a friendly sounding stranger.

Before you run out and spend big bucks on a brand new car, take the time to call your local Car Rental Agencies and ask them when they'll be selling their rental cars. You can get some wonderful deals on great cars if you have the time and the patience. Usually you'll get far more car for your money. Pick out a good one.

For some neat info on buying, selling or financing a vehicle check out a Web site used by many auto dealers for Internet sales. http://www.autoweb.com

Take advantage of your company's 401k retirement program and open up your traditional IRA, an Education IRA or the newer Roth IRA. Whether you're dreaming of a golden retirement, your first home or a college diploma, an IRA can help you reach your goals. Hot Flash…if you do have an IRA, don't make the very common mistake of reporting your IRA dividends as taxable income. It's incredible how many people do. Uncle Sam will be more than happy to take the extra taxes that you don't need to pay.

Stay tuned for bigger and better money making and money saving opportunities for you and your family.
